How the calculator works
HighLevel gives every sub-account four ways to pay for AI agents: pay-per-use with no monthly fee, or one of three AI Employee plans billed per sub-account. The calculator takes one sub-account's monthly usage, prices it on each option with HighLevel's published rates, and adds the plan fee.
- Pay-per-use: every Conversation AI response, Voice AI minute, Reviews AI reply and Managed Agent run is billed at the rate for the model you picked.
- AI Employee Starter ($20): covers your client's own Ask AI, AI Studio, Creator Studio and Content AI use. AI agents are still billed at pay-per-use rates. Founder agencies only.
- AI Employee Growth ($50): includes 1,000 Conversation AI responses, 100 Voice AI minutes and 100 Managed Agent runs a month, with unlimited Reviews AI. Usage past those amounts is billed at pay-per-use rates.
- AI Employee Unlimited ($97): unlimited Conversation AI, Voice AI and Reviews AI, plus 1,000 Managed Agent runs, all subject to fair use.
Those plan details come from HighLevel's AI Product Pricing article. Premium Workflow AI actions cost $0.01 per execution on every option, so they add the same amount everywhere and never change the answer.
How I would decide
I spent four years as a Customer Success Manager at HighLevel. AI billing is one of those areas where a quick decision gets expensive later, so here is the order I'd work through it in.
- Check who needs the assistants. Since the $20 AI Assistant seat was retired, you and your team get Ask AI and AI Studio free inside the agency, subject to fair use. Your client's own staff do not. If they need those tools in their sub-account, pay-per-use sessions add up in a way you can't predict, so a plan usually makes more sense.
- Get real usage before you guess. AI Suite at the agency level shows spend, tokens and usage per sub-account. If the client is already live, a month of real numbers beats any estimate, including mine.
- Pick the model on purpose. The model drives the pay-per-use bill more than anything else. Compare the token table below: a response on GPT 5.5 costs far more than the same response on GPT 4.1 Mini. Test the cheaper model first and only move up if replies get worse.
- Watch the Growth cliff. Growth is great until a client goes past 100 voice minutes. After that every extra minute is billed on top of the $50, and a busy phone line can make Unlimited cheaper. Run both numbers.
- Turn on spending limits. HighLevel lets you set monthly AI usage limits at the agency, sub-account and user level. Set one before you hand a voice agent to a client.
If you resell AI to clients, remember that only the $497 plan can rebill AI Employee usage. More on that, and on what is free now, in my guide Is HighLevel AI free now?. If you're weighing the agency plans themselves, see Founder vs Unlimited and the Founder plan explained.
What the calculator leaves out
- Phone System charges. HighLevel bills phone numbers, call minutes and SMS separately on every plan, including AI Employee Unlimited (AI Employee guide). They are the same whichever AI option you choose. To price them, use the usage cost calculator.
- Pay-per-use Ask AI and AI Studio for sub-account users. HighLevel prices these by the work done in each session. Its own examples run from $0.6992 to $2.9271 per Ask AI session (Ask AI examples) and $0.60 to $1.30 per AI Studio session (AI Studio pricing). There is no unit rate to multiply, so I don't estimate them.
- Prompt optimizers, Agent Studio, image and video generation. The Conversation AI and Voice AI prompt optimizers are included in Growth (500 messages and 100 minutes) and Unlimited, and billed at Conversation AI and Voice AI rates otherwise. Agent Studio is pay-per-use on every plan, so it never changes which plan is cheapest.
- Fair-use limits. "Unlimited" is subject to HighLevel's fair-use policy, and HighLevel does not publish the numbers.
- Your markup. These are your costs from HighLevel, before anything you charge the client.
Estimates, not guarantees. Real bills depend on conversation length, knowledge base size, the model and how your agents are set up. HighLevel says pricing and model availability may change, so confirm the current in-app rates before you quote anyone.

Where HighLevel's pages disagree
- The HighLevel pricing page lists AI Employee Growth ($50) and Unlimited ($97) as add-ons but does not list the $20 AI Employee Starter plan. The Help Center lists all three, so the calculator follows the Help Center. (source)
- The HighLevel pricing page names the $497 plan "Founder" on its plan card but still calls it "Pro" and "Agency Pro" in its FAQ and add-ons text. The Help Center calls it the Founder plan. (source)
- For Ask AI and AI Studio on AI Employee Unlimited, the AI Product Pricing table says "Unlimited Usage", its FAQ says 5x the Starter allowance, and the Pricing Guide says "generous included usage". The base allowance is not published. (source)
- The Voice AI external model table lists "Claude 4.5 Sonnet" twice, at $3.00 and $1.00 per 1M tokens. Both rows are left out of the calculator until HighLevel corrects the table. (source)
FAQ
Is the $20 HighLevel AI Assistant plan still available?
No. HighLevel is retiring the $20/month agency AI Assistant Plan as part of Level Up 2026. It stays active until your current billing cycle ends, then it does not renew and cannot be bought again. Agency users keep Ask AI and AI Studio through Free AI, subject to fair use. The $20 plan that still exists is AI Employee Starter, which is per sub-account.
What does the AI Employee Starter plan cost and who can buy it?
AI Employee Starter is $20/month per sub-account, and only agencies on the $497 Founder plan can buy it. It covers Ask AI, AI Studio and Creator Studio with standard usage plus Content AI for sub-account users. It does not include Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI or Managed Agents, so those stay on pay-per-use rates.
When is AI Employee Growth cheaper than pay-per-use?
Growth costs $50/month per sub-account and includes 1,000 Conversation AI responses, 100 Voice AI minutes, 100 Managed Agent runs and unlimited Reviews AI, subject to fair use. It is cheaper when the pay-per-use cost of that same usage would pass $50 for that sub-account. The calculator works this out from the model you pick and your usage.
Does AI Employee Unlimited cover phone call costs?
No. HighLevel says Phone System charges apply to all phone calls on every plan, including AI Employee Unlimited. Unlimited covers the Voice AI part of the call, subject to fair use, not the call itself. The calculator leaves phone charges out because they are the same whichever AI option you choose.
Why does the calculator not price Ask AI and AI Studio on pay-per-use?
HighLevel bills sub-account Ask AI and AI Studio sessions by the work done in each session, not at a fixed unit rate. Its own worked examples range from $0.6992 to $2.9271 per Ask AI session and $0.60 to $1.30 per AI Studio session. If your clients need these tools inside their sub-accounts, tick the box and the calculator only recommends options that include them.
What happens when a sub-account goes over its AI Employee allowance?
By default HighLevel pauses the usage. An agency admin has to turn on Extra Usage in AI Suite to keep going, and anything past the allowance is billed at pay-per-use rates. The calculator assumes Extra Usage is on and shows a flag when usage goes past an allowance.
Can I mark up AI usage for my clients?
HighLevel says agencies must be on the $497/month plan to rebill AI Employee usage. On that plan you can rebill supported AI usage with a markup or a fixed client rate, or resell Starter, Growth or Unlimited as a client subscription. This calculator shows your cost from HighLevel, before any markup.
