Embedded HighLevel Form Loading Slowly? What You Can and Can't Fix

A HighLevel form embedded on WordPress or another site can take a few seconds to appear. Here is how to measure it, what HighLevel lets you change, and the honest limits of each fix.

The short version

An embedded HighLevel form loads from HighLevel’s servers inside your page, so some of the wait is outside your control. HighLevel has not published a fix, and there are open requests about embed speed on its ideas board. What you can do: measure the page, keep the form out of the first screen, use one form per page, regenerate the embed code after changes, and test lazy loading carefully. Don’t expect any of these to make the form instant.

Is the form really what’s slowing the page?

Measure before you change anything. HighLevel’s own page speed article points to PageSpeed Insights and says to test on mobile and desktop, because mobile is usually slower (Improve Page Speed).

Run the test on the page with the form. Then make a copy of the page without the form, publish it somewhere private, and test that too. The gap between the two results is what the form costs you. If the page is slow without the form, the form is not your main problem; look at images, theme and plugins first.

Write the numbers down. You will want them when you decide whether a change helped.

What happens when a HighLevel form is embedded?

You copy the code from the form’s Integrate tab and paste it into your site. On WordPress, HighLevel’s guide uses a Custom HTML block in the page editor (Embedding Forms). That code places the form in an iframe that loads from HighLevel, and adds HighLevel’s embed script to your page.

So the visitor’s browser has to load your page, then fetch the form from HighLevel, then draw it. That second trip is why the form often appears a moment after the rest of the page, and it is the part you cannot speed up from WordPress.

Which embed settings can I change?

The Integrate tab offers Standard (inline), Popup, Popover and Sidebar layouts (Integrate tab). The non-inline layouts have display triggers: Show on Scrolling a set percentage, Show After a number of seconds, or Always Show (Embedding Options).

Be clear about what these do. They control when the visitor sees the form. HighLevel’s docs don’t say they delay the download, so test your page speed again after switching. A popup that appears on scroll is a better experience than a blank box in the hero, but don’t assume it fixes your score.

Whatever you change, HighLevel says the embed code on your site is static, so layout, trigger and deactivation changes need new embed code (Embedding Options). Old code left in place is a common reason a change seems to do nothing.

Where should the form sit on the page?

Move it out of the first screen if you can. A form below the fold is still slow to load, but visitors see your headline and content straight away instead of an empty space.

Keep to one embedded form per page. Each one is another round trip to HighLevel. If you have a newsletter form in the footer and a contact form in the body, consider sending one of them to the form’s direct link instead. The Integrate tab’s Share option gives every form a direct link and a QR code (Integrate tab), so a button that opens the form costs your page nothing.

Should I lazy-load the iframe?

Browsers can delay an offscreen iframe until the visitor scrolls near it if the iframe has a loading attribute set to lazy (web.dev). That can help when the form is well below the fold.

HighLevel does not document this for its embeds, so treat it as an experiment. After the change, check three things on a real phone: the form resizes properly, a test submission arrives in the sub-account, and any UTM or tracking values in the page link still reach the form. Optimisation plugins that delay or lazy-load scripts deserve the same three checks. If any of them fail, undo it.

What if the page has to be fast?

HighLevel’s page speed article recommends HighLevel-native forms on HighLevel’s own funnels and websites, because they load faster there (Improve Page Speed). For a landing page where the form is the whole point, building that one page in HighLevel can be the better trade.

If you are staying on WordPress, set expectations with the client: the form will appear a moment after the page. Make the space it loads into look intentional, with a heading and a short line about what happens after they submit, so the wait does not look like a broken page.

FAQ

Why is my embedded HighLevel form slow to load?

The embed loads the form from HighLevel's servers inside your page, along with HighLevel's embed script. Your site has to wait for both. HighLevel has not published a speed setting for embeds, and there are open requests about embed speed on its ideas board, so part of the delay is outside your control.

Does a popup or delayed trigger make the page faster?

It changes when the form appears. HighLevel's embedding options article describes Show After X Seconds and Show on Scrolling as display triggers, and I could not find anything in its docs saying they delay the download. Test your page before and after to see whether it helps.

Can I lazy-load a HighLevel form iframe?

Browsers support loading=lazy on iframes, which defers offscreen iframes until the visitor scrolls near them. HighLevel does not document this for its embeds, so test that the form still resizes, submits and keeps your tracking values before you rely on it.

Do I need to update the embed code after changing the form?

For layout, trigger and deactivation changes, yes. HighLevel says the embed code is static once it is on your site, so those changes need new embed code pasted in.

Is a form on a HighLevel funnel page faster?

HighLevel's page speed article recommends using HighLevel-native forms on its funnels and websites rather than third-party forms, because they load faster there. If speed matters more than keeping the page on WordPress, a HighLevel page is an option.
